The Problems with Sugar - 2

Stay with me because the most important stuff is still to come.

Let's look for a moment at the recorded effects of high blood sugar levels on diabetics, as reported in an article in Scientific American of July 2000 about pharmaceutical efforts to

"... attack and break-up stiff sugar-protein bonds known as advanced glycation end products (AGEs). These substances are formed when blood sugar (glucose) attaches itself to proteins in the body's tissues, becoming cross-linked into hard yellow-brown AGE compounds.

This theory concerning the relationship between sugar and the aging process goes back many years and is based upon the observation of diabetics, who seem to age rapidly. When glucose bonds with collagen, this can result in many negative effects, including thickened arteries, stiff joints, feeble muscles and failing organs.

Diabetics age prematurely because this sugar-driven damage acquires breakneck speed, raising their levels of AGE-infused collagen to those of elderly people. Diabetics suffer a very high incidence of nerve, artery and kidney damage because high blood sugar levels in their bodies markedly accelerate the chemical reactions that form advanced glycation products.

According to this report in Scientific American, "after years of bread, noodles and cakes, human tissues inevitably become rigid and yellow with pigmented AGE deposits."
That's one of the scariest descriptions of the damage caused by carbohydrates in the blood that I've ever read. And it comes with the 'best of credentials', too.

Now, let's take this a step further.

In my early University years I worked to pay my tuition fees at a rest-home for elderly blind ladies. It wasn't too long before I found out that many of these ladies were diabetics, blindness being one of the side-effects of diabetes.

Another horrifying side-effect was gangrene - especially of course in the toes, where circulation is most fragile and easily compromised, and several of our ladies slept with sheepskins under their feet to try and keep them from getting pressure-sores that could lead to gangrene. One of them lost pieces of her toes to gangrene, from time to time.

Now, the full picture of all this has only just become clear to me, and I'd like to share with you the information that finally fleshed out the missing pieces of the puzzle.

In the last week of her life, my mom (who was not a diabetic, although her father was) contracted gangrene in one of her feet. In the course of searching for something to help her, I came across a website called Reverse Gangrene, which I believe holds the key to dealing with the terrifying effects of gangrene in the body. Unfortunately, this discovery was too late to help my mom, but I recently went back to explore the site and found a page of dietary recommendations that in conjunction with their products help halt the progress of gangrene and prevent amputation, naturally.

It is a diet that all of us could follow for the improvement of our health. Many of its recommendations tie in with what I have already said about body pH and grains. But to me the most important thing, the lightbulb moment, was the realization that the first "no-no" listed in this diet is SUGAR.

NOW, we are talking about the most serious circulatory disease here, and when we think about poor circulation our first thought is normally "wrong fats in the diet". As I contemplated the prime place given in this listing to cutting out sugar, the whole picture suddenly fell into place, and the circulatory problems of the elderly diabetic ladies at the rest-home suddenly came back to me and took on a new meaning: SUGAR IN THE BLOOD COMPROMISES CIRCULATION.

I cannot stress the importance of that statement strongly enough. As an afterthought - Could it also be that compromised circulation is responsible for blindness?

I recommend you have a careful look at these dietary measures, which you will find HERE on the Reverse Gangrene site. In my view they are not just for diabetics or people with gangrene - they have a relevance for us all.

Please note that in the case of gangrene, this diet would be most safely relied on in conjunction with taking the products recommended on the Reverse Gangrene site - I am not advocating that anyone try to reverse gangrene simply by following this diet.

I seriously recommend these dietary measures to all of us who want to get away from the trap of Degenerative Diseases that the Western world finds itself in - thanks to its eating habits. These diseases are NOT an inevitable result of ageing - they are SELF INFLICTED by our Western society.
