Heartburn, Causes and Remedies

What is Heartburn?

Heartburn is the popular term for a type of indigestion called pyrosis. Heartburn is not a disease.

Heartburn is marked by a burning sensation in the chest. It is a form of indigestion where acid stomach contents are forced back into the oesphagus (gullet).

What Causes Heartburn?

Occasional heartburn is quite normal and is caused by distension of the stomach from eating too quickly or eating gassy food or drink.

Recurrent heartburn may be a symptom of an organic disease such as hiatus hernia, in which the valve between the stomach and the oesophagus is weakened.

Heartburn Help

Heartburn is often relieved by taking the cell salt Nat Phos. This is the acid neutralising salt in the Schuessler range of Biochemic Tissue Salts. Its function in the body is to neutralise acidity, and it is therefore helpful in cases of general acidity, indigestion, dyspepsia and heartburn.
